Good trip

Just got back from Anderson, SC to visit New Spring Community Church. NSCC is a great church getting it down in a town where few churches are getting it done. They are about 5 years old running about 4,000. It was good to hang out at a church plant and see what the future could hold. There were several things that impressed me about the church but here a couple of the key things that stuck out in my mind:

1.) Buy-in – Just talking to the various people at NSCC I was amazed at the buy-in of the people. I believe we have good buy-in at RSC but nothing like they do. These people clearly knew the vision of the church and they bought in. There was just a sense of excitement as people walked around and talked about their church. It was awesome.
2.) Volunteers – This was a volunteer lead church. The staff has equipped the people to do the work and they are doing it. We have great volunteers but far too many times we aren’t organized enough to equip our volunteers to be at their best. That is our fault, not ours.
3.) Big Mo – They seem to do a great job of keeping the momentum going. They were riding a wave and were not getting off.
4.) It is all about Sunday – I think Sunday is the #1 open door for lost people to enter in through. So we have always made it about Sunday but they took it to a while different level.
5.) Humble – They were so quick to give God the glory. That humbled me and really reminded me that it wasn’t about me.

Seeing this was good for us. It was also good to sit around as a staff and clear the air on some things and talk about how we can improve and take it to the next level. I will make staff getaways a priority from now one.
