Just Saw This:

Associated Baptist Press October 30, 2005 NEWS ALERT: Waco pastor Kyle Lake killed, electrocuted in baptism accident By Greg Warner WACO, Texas (ABP) — Kyle Lake, pastor of the innovative University Baptist Church in Waco, Texas, was killed by electrocution Oct. 30 while performing a baptism during a worship service. Lake, whose age was not immediately known, had been pastor of the church for more than four years. The congregation, made up mostly of Baylor University students, is best known as the home church of worship leader and songwriter David Crowder. Lake and a baptismal candidate reportedly were in the baptistry when the accident occurred, reportedly caused by a microphone. Lake was taken to a nearby hospital by paramedics. He was pronounced dead at 11:30 a.m., according to the church’s website. The baptismal candidate reportedly was not seriously injured. Lake and his wife, Jen, have a daughter and twin sons. Lake is the author of two books, Understanding God’s Will and [Re]Understanding Prayer. University Baptist was founded in 1995 by Crowder and Chris Seay, an author and now pastor in Houston. The Waco congregation, which attracts about 600 worshipers each week, is known not only for Crowder’s music but for its emphasis on the arts and multimedia worship. A special service for prayer and counseling of UBC members was held at nearby First Baptist Church in Waco Sunday night, Oct. 30. Funeral details were not yet available.

Still Mad….

Saturday, October 29th, 2005

I’m still angry. I can’t believe they lost that stinking game. I’m going to bed because if I think about it anymore it will not be pleasant in theatre 8 in the morning. :)

Heartbroken…but not surprised.

Yep. Yet again the Dawgs blow it AGAIN against the Gators. Every freaking year they blow it to the Gators.

I became a Dawg fan when I was 5 years old and they won the National Championship. I remember how excited my dad was and a love affair with the Dawgs was started. Right now I am so angry that DeAnna had to take the kids out for ice cream. :(
When I get home from church in the morning, I will have a message from mom bragging that Coach Richt (they go to the same church) was in the choir even though they lost. It happens every year. You know what? Big deal! I could care less if he was in the choir or not. I don’t know why he would want to be in the choir. He ought be at the office studying and trying to figure out how to beat the Gators.

That is my 2 cents anyway. :)

Rednecks like Hip-Hop too….sometimes :)

I always say were are reaching the postmodern rednecks of North Georgia but this week we brought in some rappers and had one of our DJ’s on stage.

Even rednecks like to hear a little bass every now and again. :)

Cha-Ching: 40 Days of Bling Bling Pictures

Friday, October 28th, 2005

Here are some pictures of our stage for Cha-Ching: 40 Days of Bling-Bling. I am trying to find the picture of our rappers and DJ but I am having no luck. We had a lot of great ideas but you can only pull so much off when you can only set-up and tear-down on Sundays and you are on a time crunch. I was very pleased and I thought our creative people did a great job.

Got my tickets…

Friday, October 28th, 2005

Terry, if you were in the ATL I would have gotten you one as well but your not, so I didn’t. Just got back from Tickermaster and got my tickets for next Thursday’s concert for Stryper!!

Yes they are still alive. Yes they are still touring. Yes they have a new CD out. Yes I am lame. :)
The concert is at Earthlink Live which is the best rat hole venue around I think.

I am pumped!

To Hell With The Devil!!!!!! :)

2 Days, 3 Church Planters

Thursday, October 27th, 2005

In the last two days I have ran into and had long discussions with three different church planters in our area. To be honest, a year ago I think we would have all smiled a fake smile and done the “christian” thing and talked to each other and been glad when it was over. Whether we like it or not, it is easy to forget we are on the same team and it is very easy to get competive and even jealous of what others are doing. I was just as much to blame if not more then any of the others but it was very obvious to many people there was tension among all the “new” churches.

A year later things are totally different. I think we all have matured and we realize when we see each other that we are a chosen breed. There are only 3 or 4 guys in town who can relate to the last year I have had and that is the other planters. It is funny, now when we run into each other is so obvious we all genuinly want to know what God is doing in each others church and we are truly excited about how each Church has found their niche and how God is blessing each one.

That is cool.

I say all that to say this: Church planting is lonley. Blogging is great but it CANNOT take the place of face to face interaction with those who are doing the same thing you are. If you have other guys planting in your area, make time to hang with them, encourage each other, vent to each other, and remember we are all on the same side.

That is an easy thing to forget.

Pretty Vegas

Thursday, October 27th, 2005

We were sitting around today and just talking about some things we want to teach on next year and one of those things is Lust and Porn. We did a six week series and focused on God’s plan for sex and the GOOD of sex. In one message I hit on lust and porn and man we hit a nerve. So we will follow up that this next year with a two or three week series on this.

We will probably fly out to Vegas to shoot some video and then Tim suggested we play Pretty Vegas by INXS. If you listen to that song it is taking about how ugly Vegas after you get past the glitz. Just like Lust.

I have been wanting to plug this song in since I first heard it. Therefore I am a happy camper.
