Help me out….

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

Okay, we are going to do a music series this summer. Call it God of the iPod, God at the billboards, or whatever you want. We haven’t named it yet.

I need your help (especially if you go to The Stone). E-mail me some songs you think would work that people hear on the radio and have some great biblical meaning behind them.

We’ve got a few ideas but would love some more.

Thanks!

Weird Feeling….

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

I was driving to church this week and I passed the school we met in when we first started. As I approached I saw the banner and I knew instantly what it was. It was a new church in town. This area is dying and going to hell so let me say up front that I am all for new church plants and I hope these guys make it and reach lost people like no one else.

BUT, I got to admit it was weird seeing another church in OUR building. Okay, it isn’t our building but that place was good to us and it brings about very fond thoughts. We had a AWESOME relatinship with the leadership there. I was surprised how jealous that I got that they were in the old school. :) It was funny, I hated that place when we were there but as I thought about it after seeing that sign, I have to admit we would not be where we are today without that old school that you can’t even see from the road.

After getting over my petty jealously, I prayed that God will give them as much blessing and favor as He showed us there. :)

Good Day

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

Yesterday was just a good day. First off the kids were gone so that made for a morning of sleeping late. Every parent needs that every now and again.

Then DeAnna and I got to hang out with our friends Greg and Lori Rohlinger. I always love hanging out with Greg and solving the world’s problems. They are just a cool couple and it is cool to hang out people who are doing it but are still REAL! The best thing was DeAnna got to be there with us. Her and Laurie really hit it off and it was good for her to get to hang out with someone who knows what it is like to be a pastor’s wife.

Then last night I got word that someone I had been praying about coming to The Stone is coming. I can’t give the 411 yet but let’s just say it is a GOD thing. Through meeting online, God brought us together and we have just clicked. To have someone with mad skills like this coming to the Stone, I believe it is going to take us to another level and make us strong in areas we are VERY weak. I’m excited.

Good day of rest and fun and now it is time to get back work.

Middle Aged and Jobless???

Sunday, May 28th, 2006

I was talking to a great couple who have been with us for about a year today at the service and I asked them how they found out about The Stone and there story was so freaking funny I had to share it.

They said they were somewhere and the subject of church came up. Someone piped up and said the week before they visited a church (that would be us) but it appeard to them to simply be “a bunch of middle aged men who couldn’t find a job so they started a church.” :)
These people thought that was cool so they visited and they have been their every week since. Hey, I’ll take them in whatever way it takes. :)

On a Holiday weekend????

Sunday, May 28th, 2006

God always amazes me. Today we had our highest attendance ever for a day other then our anniversary or Easter. We had close to 600 people in attendance today!!!!!!!!!!! On top of that we dunked about 20 people and just had a fun day. We continued our DRIVE series we started Mother’s Day and today we talked about the importance of fellowship with an outside tailgating service.

We brought in a tractor trailer and set up the flat bed as a stage, brought out the sound system, set-up a bunch of campers (one for a back drop, two for men and women to change in after getting dunked), catered in BBQ, and had church.

The people who make up RSC always make me laugh. We had a bunch of chairs set out and they filed up quick. They funny thing was all the people backing up their trucks and setting up chairs and tents they brought and actually tailgating. One thing us rednecks know how to do is tailgate so my people were in their element.

Baptism’s were awesome and it was so cool to see these people goign public with their faith!

Who would have thought we would have that type of day on a holiday weekend?

Doing a little Tailgating

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

We are doing church outside tomorrow! We have done this basically on summer holiday weekends. We figured attendance is gong to be down so let’s have a little fun. The funny thing is because we always do this, our attendance is always very good for a holiday weekend.

Sunday we we are continuing our DRIVE series, the band is going to do a little concert, we are catering in BBQ, dunking some folks who have decided to follow Christ, bringing in inflatables for the kids, and going to have a great time.

The thing I always love about these days is the laid back vibe and watching friendships form.

Should be a blast!

New Elite Fighting Force

Friday, May 26th, 2006

The Pentagon announced TODAY the formation of a new 500-man elite fighting unit called the
United States Redneck Special Forces (USRSF).
These Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and West Virginia boys will be dropped off into Iraq and have been given only the following facts about terrorists :

1. The season opened today.
2. There is no limit.
3. They taste just like chicken.
4. They don’t like beer, pickup trucks, country music or Jesus.
5. They are directly responsible for the deaths of Elvis & Dale Earnhardt.

The Pentagon expects the problem in Iraq to be over by next Friday.

Great, I just read this and I know this will affect our attendance this Sunday now that most of our men will be in Iraq. :)

Doing my part….

Friday, May 26th, 2006

I don’t do SBC stuff and all that goes on with that. A lot of people are totally into that and that is great but I have always felt focused on building the church called me to plant. However I have been asked to be part of a few things along the way and when it fits into the vision I have for my church and my life, I do them. The Young Missional Leader Taskforce was one of those things.

I honestely do appreciate the work of the SBC and I do appreciate what they have accomplished in reaching the world so I thought I would pass this blurb from Ed Stetzer. Ed is hosting the Young Leader Meeting in Greensboro. I respect that.

Here is what he asked me to post:
Ed Stetzer, Tim Bagwell, and John Avant are planning to lead a conference call for SBC bloggers heading to Greensboro who want to hear about the SBC/Greensboro Younger Leader Meeting and the NAMB Missional Network. This will be open to the first 20 bloggers who email Tim Bagwell (tbagwell@namb.net), the NAMB Director of the soon-to-be-launched Missional Network. You can email him at tbagwell@namb.net. The conference call will be held 2p.m. Eastern on May 30th.

Do with it what you want.
