My wife is a big fan of the TV show ER. Me not so much. However I watched the season finale tonight and man it was good. That is the way I remember ER being back in the day.
ER has to be on life support in regards to staying on the air but tonight they put on a good show.
Since we started we have been using Community Church Builder for all of our database stuff. To be honest, I think it is worthless. It just seemed hard to get our people working it and it was a pain to figure out on our own. In the end we have simply used it for accounting purposes.
With our assimilation guy coming on in two weeks we had to decide to stay with it or move to something else.
We decided to switch to Fellowship One because it can grow with us and allows us to add stuff as we need it.
I’m excited….
I always have a little idea tucked away for Ridge Stone that I am waiting to throw into our vision. About 4 months ago we started talking as a staff about a vision I had for our church. Last week we really started putting meat to the bones of the idea and I am excited. I had to walk around the office today and remind the guys we still have a service to do this week and to get refocused but their is a buzz in the air.
We have never played it safe at The Stone so why start now.
More to come in the next few months…
I am reading a book on multi-site churches (I’ll post a review soon) and was talking to a pastor I ran into today that does it and we started talking about the cost. This person has an established church and they are looking at multi-site. He gave me the cost and it was high for equipment.
It got me thinking I think multi-site is easier and way cheaper for a church plant that is already portable especially if you do the other site at night. You load up the trailer and take it to the next location. The only added cost is literally renting a place to meet.
Not sure why I posted that but I that is what I was thinking about.
Go to CrazyChurch.com and sign up for their email and you will get a log-in and password and then you will be directed to a site that has the graphics and junk of 4 pretty cool churches for free.
Do I see a trend????
We COULD have some interesting things happening to us that could present unique opportunities to look at the way we do church and try some different things.
Questions I am asking:
What do we do best?
Do we dance with what brought us here?
WHEN do you try something new?
How can we expand our geographic reach?
How do you keep MO when curve balls get thrown?
BTW I haven’t said this in a while but I LOVE CHURCH PLANTING!
And opportunities like this are why I love it.
We had fun today and the creative team just blows my mind with what they are able to do and do in a portable setting. Not only are we portable but everything we have to set-up has to be set-up on Sunday morning. In the school we were able to go in on Saturday before big creative days, now we have to do it on Sunday morning and there is no way around that.
It presents challenges but we make it happen and I am proud of our people for that.
However, after seeing what they do in a portable setting, I can’t wait to see what they come up with when we get a building….
We kicked off our DRIVE series today and it was a blast. To kick off the series we brought in a steel guitar player and our drummer played banjo on a few songs.
The songs we did were:
Undignified
No one like you
Happy Song
Dueling Banjos
I saw the light
Most of those we do pretty regular but adding the country element was different but fun. The creative team did a great job with the set design, the video with Preston dressed up like Ricky Bobby (we played part of the movie trailer first) had people dying, and then the man on the street interviews I did at the race track were great!
It was a lot of fun and I am glad that even the stage props stay the same, we go back to regular music next week.
Tadd posted some pictures until I can get some up. Check them out here.
No one really cares about this but it is my blog so I thought I would write it. I had to spank Avery today. I hate doing that but it is part of the gig of being a parent.
Anyway, I spanked him and he was bound and determined not to let me see him cry. He bit his lip and just look straight ahead. His eyes were watering but he was not going to lose it.
He’s a stubborn little man especially to not even be 2 years old yet.
Wonder who he gets that from??????
I have to be honest I don’t go to the site that much but I decided to go to planterblogs.com today and it is gone. Where did it go?
EDIT: I guess is now called planterplant.com. Why? Also why didn’t they just keep planterblogs.com as well so it would forward to the new name. But why new name anyway?
I guess it really doesn’t matter but on a Lazy Saturday that is the type of stuff my mind can think about….
