Any show that makes a Guns N Roses reference is top notch to me :)

What a wuss….

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

Driving home today I was flipping through the channels and a song on the country station caught my attention. It is by some band called Heartland, “I loved her first.”

Man, my Ashlyn is only 5 and better be about 20 years from getting married but she is Daddy’s girl and I got a stinking lump in my throat listening to the song. I had to download it and I feel like a big wuss now. :)

INKED: Leaving YOUR Mark

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

This week we are launching what might be the biggest internal series we have ever done at The Stone. It is time for us to prepare ourselves to leave a bigger mark here in the community and reach position ourselves to reach more people then ever before.

It is going to take our people stretching themselves like never before and stepping out on faith in ways that they never have before. I am excited to see what God does during this series in the life of our church.

Bottom line is this town is over 75% unchurched and I am not content to sit back while people die and go to hell. God called us to start this church we are going to do whatever is necessary short of sin to reach the people in this community.

The flywheel is turning faster and faster, but it is time to get going even faster. God has big plans for The Stone and starting this Sunday we take the next steps towards making those things happen.

I am pumped up!!!!!!!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man I was in the process of posting a post telling Richt he COULD go to Miami and Cox bailed us out. Man, that was to stinking close. Bad clock management, pretty bad play calling towards the end, and yet with 46 seconds left, they pulled it out.

I would have never heard the end of that. Every National Championship team barely squeaks one out during the season and we’ll take that as our squeaker. :)
I actually feel a little bad for Colorado. I am a big fan of their coach. When I was in Iowa, I was a big fan of Boise State because they ran the score up on everyone and I was glad when Colorado hired him, but I am glad he gets to turn the program around against someone else.

GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!

That is what I like to hear…

Contrary to an Internet report, there is no language in Georgia football coach Mark Richt’s contract that would allow him to leave for Miami, his alma mater. If Richt opts to terminate his eight-year contract on or before Dec. 31, 2010, he must pay the school’s athletics association the amount of his salary and compensation package for each year remaining on the contract. Richt is due no less than $1.7 million annually.

Sorry Travis but you can’t have The big DAWG down at The U unless you want to fork over the big buy out money. Actually I guess with all the drug money the players have down there, you could buy out his contract pretty easy. Great, now I have to go back to worrying about him leaving. :)

Kids say the darndest things…

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

Ashlyn at school today: “My daddy is a pastor.”
Teacher: “He’s a pastor, do you know what that means he does?”
Ashlyn: “Yeah, he tells everyone what to do.”

I wish it was that easy!!!!!

It is funny we have never really shared with the kids with what I do for a living. Not that it is a secret but as long as possible, we have wanted them to feel normal at church. Yet, somehow she knows and I love what she thinks that means.

You got me back…

I quit watching ER about two years ago though DeAnna still watches it. So from passing through when it is on, I semi knew what was going on. Then last year for some reason I watched the season finale. My interest was peaked. Then last night I watched them kick off the season and all I can say is ER, you have brought me back!!!!

Man I can’t believe ER is still kicking and it is back to being as good as ever.

Innovative Pastors Roundtable

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

I got invited from Shawn Lovejoy to attend a round table thingy put on by Lifeway today to see how Lifeway could better serve more modern style churches. I haven’t been in a Lifeway in probably two years but I love Shawn so I agreed. There were about 10 of us invited and it was a good group of guys.

I am glad I went.

I forgot how important and how much networking is needed. It is so easy to forget there are guys out there doing the same things you are. It was refreshing to be in a room with a few others guys who were doing church in the same vein as we are.

The guys in attendance were:
Brian Bloye from West Ridge - This is our momma church so I always like to hang with the boss. Plus he makes me laugh.
Tony McCollum from Mill Creek Church - One of my best friends in the world
Jeff Murphy from Big Sky Church
Mike Lukaszewski from Oak Leaf Church
Jim Carpenter from Compass Church - Met for the first time. I liked him a lot.
Steve (can’t remember the dude’s last name) from Stonecreek Church - Met for the first time
Ritchie Miller - Avalon Church - Met for the first time - running 1500 in about 5 years!
Shawn Lovejoy - Mountain Lake Church
I think I am missing someone but I’m not sure.

It was a nice break from the typical week. I left there encouraged and excited to be reminded others are as crazy as we are for planting churches!

KIDNAPPED

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

I was pumped about this show but I got to say it was BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think it could be good, so I am going to give it a few more weeks, but not a great start at all.

Another show, I was pumped about was SMITH. It actually wasn’t bad. They had to get us to know the people so it was a little slow but it will come through I think.

Tomorrow night the Office and My Name is Earl start!

Yes, I have issues. :)
