That is all I can say about the latest post from Bob Franquiz. Very convicting to me in many areas. Check it out here. I meet very few people that I leave impressed with. When I met Bob at a conference this year, I instantly hit it off with him. He is the real deal, doing a great church, in a truly hard area.
Congrats Bob on 6 years of doing your thing down there!
I have heard sin will take you farther then you want to go and cost you more then you ever wanted to spend.
It is kind of like my love for Terrell Owens. I have been wheeling and dealing all week to build the perfect fantasy team with lot of depth. Today I went farther then I wanted to go and spent more then I wanted to get TO. Not a good idea probably, but I have had him every year and I had to have him again. I traded Deion Branch and Willis McGhee for him. I have zero depth at RB now as all I have is Ahman Green, Reggie Bush, and Thomas Jones. I did go pick up Maroney from NE but he is a back up right now. If Green stays healthy I am alright.
I know have Reggie Wayne, TO, Chad Johnson, and Randy Moss so I have a lot of loudmouths and a lot of talent at WR.
I love blogging and have been doing it for a while. But here is what I have decided blogging does 90% of the time: It makes experts out of those doing nothing.
I love how guys (myself included) become experts in their field (like starting churches) when really they aren’t doing anything. I have to an extent quit posting church planting “advice” on here and just started posting random things from my life and Ridge Stone because blogging started me thinking of college professors and the old saying that those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach.
I think that could be changed: Those who can, do. Those who can’t, tell you how to on their blog.
There are exceptions to the rule and there are some GREAT people blogging but I always get a kick that some of the people blogging are thought of as experts simply because they have a blog and not because they are actually doing something.
a TV addict. I can’t help it, I love TV. When we started the church we never had money to do anything so after the kids were asleep, DeAnna would watch TV and chill out. To this day I still love TV. I am fine until primetime, but then I start shaking and need TV.
Anyway, the previews of the new show on NBC called Kidnapped isn’t helping my problem. This show looks intense and I can’t wait for it to start.
Supernova made a awful choice. I am not a Lukas fan. He looks like a glam rocker and you can’t understand anything he says.
Bad call guys.
Okay I won my fantasy game last week by one point! My 4 WR’s got a total of 7 points! So it was time for some major overhauling. I have been wheeling and dealing and playing the wire and basically have a new team:
Tom Brady - QB - Had him for two years and he ain’t going nowhere…yet.
R. Wayne - WR
R. Moss - WR (traded for him)
D. Branch - WR (got him on the wire)
C. Johnson - WR (traded for him)
R. Bush - RB (didn’t start him last week, I will this week)
A. Green - RB (got him on the wire)
T. Jones - RB (got him on the wire)
W. McGhee - RB (traded to get him)
B. Watson - TE (got him on the wire)
N. Rackers - K
Chi - Def
Yes, you will notice that Larry Johnson is gone. I hated it but I had to use him to improve at WR and still got a good RB in the trade. By getting rid of Johnson I was able to become a more balanced team and it is my hope that Johnson gets keyed on with the weak OL that they have.
As active as I have been, Preston is insane mode. He has basically traded his whole team and just today made a 6 player trade!
Tonight is the final episode of Rockstar: Supernova and I am sticking with my pick from the third week and that Dilana. Toby will probably win but I am sticking with Dilana and I honestly do think she is the best fit for Supernova and their style.
If I am right then I am going to bet on it next year because last year I picked JD at about week three as well.
John is going on two weeks with us now as our admin pastor and I got to be honest: It is awesome!
He is so organized, he buys into our vision, and I just like the dude. It is so awesome having someone take so much of the junk off of me where I can focus on leading and teaching more.
Plus he traded me Randy Moss today. I know Moss isn’t what he used to be but I have a soft spot for the hellraisers of the league.
I recently gave my thoughts on 2 years of church planting. Well David Trotter has one upped me and gave his thoughts on 3 years as a church planter. David is doing a great job and I always enjoy reading his blog.
Check out his thoughts here.
We just had a GREAT weekend this weekend.
Yesterday, we had a fun membership class. I always love membership class and getting to meet new people is always a blast. I love to hear the stories of how people found out about The Stone. It always gets me pumped up and ready to keep at it.
Last night we had dinner at with an incredible family in the church. We normally don’t do anything after 4 p.m. on Saturdays but this family has been with us since about a month into us starting. Their marriage was facing some MAJOR problems when they started and they had NEVER been to church before. They are now so locked in that is crazy. He is Cuban so he made some dish that was off the hook! I’m not sure what it was and I didn’t want to ask but it was good.
The last night… do I even have to mention that? How bout them Dawgs!!!! Freshman QB looked like the real deal and I am pumped up about the season. Plus I am now one up on my bet with Perry because his Tigers choked and lost to Boston College.
THEN TODAY WAS OFF THE HOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!! We started a new series called Together all about relationships and it was GREAT. It was so different then our normal vibe. We did away with the video backdrops, the 5 piece band and totally went with a jam session style service (can’t wait to show you some photos). The worship was AWESOME with 11 people on the stage. I would not trade Tim for anyone in America. We are so in tune with each other. It is like we read each others thoughts on how things should be going. I taught a message today called Better Together and it just felt good to be teaching again after having last week off and the message seemed to click. The attendance was great and I love when our people are bringing others.
Tonight we FINALLY started something for the teens of the church. We just doing small groups for them but we kicked that off at the park and had 43 teenagers. AWESOME!!! We have some GREAT volunteers in that area and I am excited about the future of that ministry.
The only damper right now is I am losing my Fantasy game right now but only by 6 and I have Reggie Wayne and he has no one but Porter tomorrow so I feel semi-good about it.
