Great Start To The Week….

Monday, February 19th, 2007

Today was one of the most productive days we have had in a long time.  Our staff meeting was off the hook.  Everyone on our Lead Team spent time with other churches this last week and it was awesome to hear the things they had learned and how they would fit in our context here at RSC.

We then started our first ever organzational chart for staffing and volunteers to get us to 1500.  Every church should do this with their team as it provided some GREAT questions and some GREAT discussion.  There is something very eye opening about seeing the chart laid out in front of you.  We have a long way to go but we are off to a great start.

Another GREAT thing about today was we finished painting the hall.  It literally looks amazing.  They also acid washed the floors and put the clear coat on them tomorrow.  We only have one meeting room left to paint we are DONE!!!!!!!!

I have also officially declared war on our the people who govern our property.  We are the ONLY renters in our building (we are trying to buy) and because of that we have no voice in anything.  They fired me up pretty good today and I am probably the wrong person to make angry.  I think they assume I am the nice little pastor and will abide by their rules but nothing could be further from the truth.  We have had problems from one guy in the building since THE day we moved in and I have about had enough.  The great thing about our church is I know our men would bail me out of jail if I beat the crap out of the dude so that is nice. :)

If you haven’t seen the office, stop in and say hello and see how awesome it looks!!!

Early Morning Mind Dump

Monday, February 19th, 2007
  • I am ready to get back to the office after being gone all last week
  • I have a busy busy week.  I have to many meetings plus I have to finish my session for the churchplanters.com conference and my sermon for this week.
  • I think DeAnna and I had a fight about 3:30 this morning over who was going to get Avery out of bed because he was crying but I was so tired I don’t remember. :)
  • I am looking forward to seeing the acid washed floors at the office today
  • We got a ton of people going to the Unleash Conference.
  • Prison Break is back tonight followed by 24.  Yeah baby!!
  • Saw the first draft of our Easter marketing last night.  VERY funny stuff.
  • People who have been at your church since the start then leave and never have the respect to even tell you they are leaving are just odd to me.
  • You DON’T want everyone who walks in your church - I’ll post more on this later
  • Tim, Preston, Malcolm and I have all hung out with other churches in the last week learning stuff.  I am pumped to hear what everyone learned today.
  • We have got to get some volunteer leaders.  #1 goal right now.
  • My prayer life turns up the heat today on a portable location we are going to need to continue to grow.
  • I am digging the vibe of our new series called Storybook that stars this week.
  • We are doing 24 for our Easter series.
  • Did you see the graphics for Steven Furtick’s new series?  Some of the best I have seen.
  • Today we are putting together an organizational flow chart that will allow us to get to 2,000.  Should be fun.
  • Went to Longhorn’s last night and had the BEST french onion soup I have ever had in my life.  It was incredible.
  • I feel bad that Mark Martin lost that race yesterday.  He is a classy old man.
  • Starting Over, our addiction ministry is THE place to be this Wednesday night.  Ray is giving his story and it is going to be tight!!!!
  • Yesterday was a rush.  I love days like that.
  • Ashlyn is out of school today so DeAnna said it is stay in PJ’s all day today.  That sounds fun.
  • Is it summer yet?
  • We have about 40 teenagers going sking Thursday morning.  I am excited about what God is doing in our students.  Shout out to Chris.  He has a lot of growing to do but he is doing a GREAT job.
  • Preston and I are meeting this week about making some changes in Planet Shakers that could be huge and take that area to another level.
  • I should FINALLY have my own office by the end of the week.  I have been sharing with Preston for a year.  The office is painted and the furniture should be arriving today.
  • DeAnna just walked through the living room and gave me a nasty look.  I guess we DID fight in our sleep last night.  That isn’t good. :)
  • We had a couple show up at our Christmas Eve service that has to be in their late 80’s.  They have been married 67 years.  I finally spent some time talking to them yesterday and they told me they come to The Stone because our music and my teaching is the only church where they can actually hear.  Hey, whatever it takes to get them in I am for. :)
  • I don’t know if I am more excited about the conference next week for the sessions or all the old friends who are going to be there.   It is going to be fun.
  • I can see 1,000 in attendance in my sleep.  We will break that barrier before summer.
  • Our creative areas are going to the next level with Amy now on staff.  We have concepts down on paper through the fall.  That is awesome.  We have some good stuff planned.
  • I have a huge zit on under my eye and it freaking hurts!!!
  • Can you believe Easter is almost here?
  • DeAnna is in Ebay mode and when she gets like that, I just stay out of the way.
  • I need to download some new music.  I am bored with what I have been listening to lately.
  • It is time to go to work.

THAT is RACING!!!

What a race today!!!!  The Daytona 500 ended awesome!!!  Congras to Kevin Harvick!!  I have always loved Harvick and Tony Stewart.  I love the guys who stir it up.

If you missed the finish then go on YouTube in a little while as I am sure someone will put the finish on there.

Crazy Morning…

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

Today was a crazy morning.  I woke up with a splitting headache and by the second service I was dying with a cold.  Talking out your mouth with you can’t breathe out your nose is not fun. :)

Tim took a Sunday off to go hang out at New Spring and see their pre-service stuff.  Tim and I are so close that is just different for me when someone else is leading worship BUT Evan did a GREAT job.  Two years ago, Evan was barely good enough to be our back up guitar player but today he could lead worship in many churches.  He did a good job.

Add to the fact that in our crazy school system that it is winter break and we had a ton of people out of town and all that added up to one crazy Sunday.

However I felt like things (especially the second service) was freaking GREAT.  By the second service I was on some good cold medicine and let’s just say it was no holds barred. :)

I told our people today I was pumped up as I have ever been and this town hasn’t seen us push anything like we are about to.  Hang on because it is going to be a wild ride. :)

One Hall, One Room, One Acid Washed Floor Left…

Saturday, February 17th, 2007

The office is almost done!!!!!

We have to paint the hall and conference room and they are coming to acid wash the floors on Monday and we are done!!!!!!!!!!

It is going to be so nice not to worry about that stuff anymore!!!!!

To everyone who helped, Thank YOU!!!!

Finally Home….

Saturday, February 17th, 2007

I finished my trip be arriving home LATE last night.

Yesterday was an awesome way to finish up a good week.

I woke up yesterday morning and met with Jay Hardwick who pastors in Greenville.  I enjoy his blog so it was nice to meet him face to face.  I always like hearing what God is doing in different churches and different models.

I think spent the afternoon with Jason Moorhead and Perry Noble.  NO ONE gets me pumped up for ministry like Perry.  We just connect and I always leave him with my vision for RSC so MUCH bigger.  We talked through staffing structure, my growing as a leader, and future space issue we are going to have.  I ended up leaving there about 3 hours later then I intended but it was so worth it.

The trip was so refreshing and I am more pumped about RSC then ever.  We are going to freaking rock this town for the cause of Christ!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bringing IT Sunday….

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

I finished up this week’s sermon two weeks ago and then I didn’t teach last week so I have had it brewing in me for two weeks.  Malcolm did a great job last week but I am READY to bring it this Sunday!!!!!

We are finishing up our Simple series and I am ready to bring IT.

Freak of the week: RSC Staff

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

I know I said the freak of the week would be a way to highlight our volunteers who knock it out of the park every week but this week I want to give a shout out to our staff.  It is a awesome feeling to know you can go out of town for a week and KNOW that everything is being handled and done with excellence.

Ridge Stone, you are so blessed to have such an awesome staff.  I love working with them.  I trust them.  They get the vision.  They are sold out for RSC.  They are sold out to me.  They are sold out for you.

Tim, Preston, Malcolm, Amy, Cheri, Taylor, and Chris, you guys rock!!!!!

Today was worth it….

I woke up this morning and hooked up with Steven Furtick.  I had wanted to hook up with him for a while.  He pastors a one year old church running about 1200.  That is amazing.  I really don’t know what to say about our meeting.  I don’t mean that in a bad way at all.  Steven came STRONG with his thoughts and he stretched me in some ways I have not been stretched in a very long time.  I have not been able to get his words and thoughts out of my head the rest of the day.  He honestly gave me so much to chew on that it will take a while for me to process what he said and fit it in my context as the pastor of The Stone.  I left there very impressed.  It takes a lot for me to shut up and listen and I found myself doing that in our meeting today.  It alone was worth the trip.  I also hooked with Chunks, their executive pastor and I have to say he might be one of the sharpest executive guys I have met.

After meeting with those guys, I headed north a few miles and hooked up with my friend Jimmy Britt for about 5 hours.  It seemed like 30 minutes.  I love Jimmy because he could care less if I like him.  He is who he is and that is it.  He has a heart for lost people like few I know and we just click.  I had a great time with him and was glad I took time to hook up with him.  Plus, he fed me BBQ. :)

I’m in Greenville now and I got to be honest, I am ready to get home.  I miss my family and I am sick of Hotels.  I have two more meetings tomorrow and I am looking forward to them as well.

It has been a great trip and I am ready to get to Ridge Stone.
