Hmmm…..
I am at the office today and it is quiet. We gave everyone the day off for Labor Day, but I am heading out of town and wanted to tie up some loose ends. I have caught myself thinking about the future a lot and where and how Revolution will BEST impact the north central region. I am a big picture guy and I live a lot in the moment, but one of my callings as the pastor of this church is look, think, and pray about the long term movement of Revolution.
One thing I have learned in planting this church and watching others plant churches is there is no right or wrong way to do this thing. Some have done it in movie theaters, some have done it in schools, some have done it in warehouse space, some have built when they were small and grown, some have built when they were big and grown, etc. Every pastor has to get alone with God and discover the plan and leading for the church they are called to pastor. Seek God, seek advice, learn from others, but eventually you have to do step in the way you feel led to go.
This is where I am now. I have been seeking God for a while on the next steps for our church once we outgrow the theater, which could be by the end of the year. Buying and building a building is NOT an option at this time and even if it was, that takes time. Empty space is rare here and the space we would need is even rarer. That is why I am so intrigued with the multi-site movement. It changes the way you think of doing church. Instead of needing a 50,000-75,000 sq ft building, we can instead look at 25,000 sq ft spaces and know that we can always add another campus at any time. I always assumed we would build a larger building in Canton when the time is right. The problem is what do you inbetween now and when the time is right? As I sit here dreaming today, I think what if we had a location north of town (around Airport Rd) and we had a location south of town (around Holly Springs) and what if we had a location east of town (around Macedonia/Hickory Flats)? All of these areas have empty “smaller” spaces where we could easily build 500 seat worship spaces and do video campuses. We could expand our reach by going to these areas and instead of sitting up in the middle of town, we would basically be building a perimeter around town.
Not saying that is what we are going to do but I do LOVE dreaming and asking what if….
