I hate Chris Elrod

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

At one time I had a friend named Chris Elrod, but for at least the rest of today, I hate him.  No, I am not kidding.  Yes, I hate him.  In the last 24 hours he has made fun of me for being a wuss and not being around while the eel was being removed and now he has called my Dawgs out for their game against the Gators.

Tomorrow we might be friends again, but not today.

Blown Away!!!

Friday, October 26th, 2007

We had our first volunteer party tonight and I am blown away at how awesome our people are!!!!!  I walked around tonight and a couple of times it overwhelmed me how awesome it is that God let’s me pastor this church.  Truly, I love our people.

It was so much fun to just hang out.  I sat back and watched people connect with new people and it just reminded me how valuable our people are to our vision.

I’m a lucky man.

For the record….

Not sure I will get a chance to post again before the game so I am saying it right now that Georgia will beat Florida.  To me the biggest game of the year is the game against the Gators.  I clear off the schedule, grill some hot wings, sit on the coach and nothing gets me attention unless there is blood involed during this game.

It will be close but we will knock Tebow out of the game in the second quarter and we will win.

Go Dawgs!

Yep, that’s me :)

My good friend Tony McCollum (who I believe has one of the greatest church planting minds around) has listed some interesting facts about me on his blog.  For the record I will say, yes, they are all true. :)

You can check them out here.

Volunteer Bash Tonight!!!

Friday, October 26th, 2007

I am pumped up about partying with all the volunteers who make up Revolution tonight!  We are what we are because of the awesome volunteers we have at Revolution.  I have never been around such an awesome, committed, sold-out group of people like I am here.  Tonight we are throwing a  bash to say THANK YOU for all that you do!

If you volunteer in ANY area of Revolution, you are invited.  We have rented out Yahoo Farm and we are going to have a blast.  Bring the whole family as there will be a ton to do for the kids (I know it is late but trust me, your children will survive being up last one night and having fun).

The fun starts at 7:00 p.m. and if you haven’t told us you are coming, that is cool.  We have a good idea of how many people are going to be there, so just show up!  See ya there!

The Office

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

Is there a better written show on TV than The Office????  It is the one show that makes me laugh out loud.

Things that make me laugh….

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

I often hear things about Revolution that I can’t do anything about but laugh. Today Tim showed me an email that said Revolution was nothing but “drug addicts, Rednecks and “elite” staff.”

We do have a lot of drug addicts. I love them and dig that they love coming to Revolution.

We do have a lot of rednecks but probably not as much as I play it up. But I dig rednecks as well. We are in Canton and we are launching sites in the mountains so that is probably is a good thing that we have some rednecks around.

We also have a pretty “elite” team of staff. Matter of fact, I think we have the best staff in the world. They are not only staff, but they are my best friends. How great is that???

I guess this person meant their comments as an insult, but I counted them as a compliment.

Here is a typical day in the offices of Revolution Church.  This was the emergency removal of Lucifer, the eel from my saltwater tank.  Click here to enjoy.

Risk

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

During our All In series I taught a message on risk.  I realized today that I was preaching to myself during that message.  Right now I believe God is calling us to step out on faith in some ways that on paper do NOT make sense.  However, I feel as strong as I have ever felt in my life that God is preparing us for something big and we have to trust him and step out. I’m excited.  I truly feel the last three years were preparing us for what is about to happen.  People call me the king of hype but I can promise you that what God is laying on my heart right now isn’t just hype.  I haven’t felt this way since Tadd and I use to stay at our rat-hole office late into the night dreaming about how we were going to change Canton before we launched Revolution.

What God is laying on my heart is a HUGE risk.  I have heard preachers say “dream a dream so big that if God doesn’t show up then you are doomed to fail.”  Right now, that is what God is stirring in my heart.

  • Financially it doesn’t make sense (trust me, it doesn’t make sense)
  • Volunteer wise it doesn’t make sense
  • In regards to playing it safe, it doesn’t make sense
  • In regards to what is easiest, it doesn’t make sense

The thing is God NEVER calls us to play it safe.  Launching Revolution wasn’t safe.  Moving to the movie theater wasn’t safe.  Letting some people leave wasn’t safe.  Hiring the people on our team wasn’t safe.  Starting a church for those who don’t do church didn’t make sense and sure wasn’t safe.  You people allowing me to be your pastor sure isn’t safe.  But God has blessed us in ways we could never imagine.

I believe the next month is going to be life changing in the life of Revolution.  Starting with this Sunday’s message, we ARE going to become a church that understands generosity.  Then next Sunday when Joe Sangl comes in, I believe you are going to see the light at the end of the tunnel in regards to your financial mess and in the process have your life changed!!  Then three weeks from now on November 11th, we are going to be reminded WHY we do church the way we do it as we rock it out with baptisms and some big news concerning Revolution Jasper….and hopefully some big news about Revolution Canton (no, we aren’t getting a permanent building).  Everything we have planned including THIS Sunday are huge steps of faith but could be life changing in your personal life and the life of Revolution.

I really feel like God is preparing us for our Holiday series called Revolutionary Love that we are going to kick off with our Thanksgiving Boxes (you’ll be hearing about those soon).  What we have planned for the Holidays is going to show the unselfishness of the people who make up Revolution Church!  I don’t care if anyone outside of our communities ever hears about our church, but I want everyone in our community to hear about us and to know the community is a better place because we are here.  Doing the things necessary to to bring about change is risky.

It takes huge risk to change the world!

Bye Bye Eel

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

Came into the office this morning and Lucifer the Eel had killed all the other fish and basically chewed them up.  Not cool.

Adam and Preton are now draining the tank and getting him out (not an easy task) to return to the store.  I’m glad to see him gone.  I just wanted to look at pretty fish, not kill myself keeping up a tank.  Live rock is going in and some calm fish wil soon follow.
