Prison Break

Monday, January 21st, 2008

The writer’s strike is killing me.  I am addicted to TV and I am missing my favorite TV shows big time.  The only good thing going right now is Prison Break has a few more episodes and they are off the hook!!!

They have turned it up a notch and if you aren’t watching this show, you are missing out!!!

Photo Shoot

Monday, January 21st, 2008

The Cherokee Tribune is doing a article on “Blogging Pastors” and I got interviewed last week about it.  Today they sent Amber out to do a photo shoot.  I am the worst person in the world to take a picture of.  I never take good photos, so it was kind of funny that I got chosen for the picture.  Also, how do you take a picture of someone blogging?  I also forgot I was taking the picture so I was rocking a shirt with skulls on it.  Not very pastor-like at all. :)

Anyway, Amber just started blogging so we got to talk about that for a minute.  I think the article is going to run this Saturday.  Too funny.

The “G”

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

I must have a thing for “G” because I love the Georgia Bulldogs and my pro team is the Green Bay Packers.  I love Favre and I love how crazy their fans are.

Anyway, does anyone know who had the “G” logo on first?  The Dawgs or The Pack?

Sunday Night Mind Dump

Sunday, January 20th, 2008
  • No church today
  • I literally slept all day. I slept till 9:30, then went back to sleep at 1 and woke up about 3:30.
  • My voice seems a little better. Hopefully by next week I will be 100%
  • For some reason I have been very dizzy all day. I think I am dying. :)
  • It is freaking COLD outside.
  • The Pack and Giants are playing tonight and it is supposed to be below zero
  • It feels so weird not having church on a Sunday
  • Got to decide if we are cutting one week off of our Confession series or if we are going to go a week longer since we didn’t have church today. I’m leaning towards going a week long
  • This has been a week of finding out interesting stuff. Can’t go into details, but it has been interesting.
  • Our boxer thinks he is a lap dog
  • Next week I am hooking up with 10-12 other pastors for 24 hours to do nothing but talk shop and share ideas.
  • We have managed to keep a fire going for two days now.  I’m impressed.
  • Next Sunday will be insane.  I will have sat on this sermon for two weeks and I will be more than ready to bring it.
  • GET your friends to church this Sunday.  Let’s pick up right where we left off last week.
  • I’m going to watch some football and probably going back to sleep. :)

Beautiful Day

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

It is cold, but other than that, it is a beautiful day.  Hindsight is 20/20 and it is easy now to say we shouldn’t have cancelled church, but last night we leaned toward the side of safety.  I hate that we aren’t having church, but I stand by the decision.

  • I could give a rip about snow.  Ice is another story.  Last night the DOT was telling people to stay off the roads because of ice.
  • Due the fact we are portable, we had to make a decision based on what we THOUGHT weather would be like at 5 in the morning, not at service time.  We had no idea what weather would be like that early when we set-up.
  • A large portion of our church comes from the north in the mountains and we assumed those roads would be worse than roads in the city.
  • We had to have the lead team to let our people know.  If we only had an 11:00 service, we could have let people know this morning.  Due to the fact we have so many people who attend, serve, and have to get up early, we wanted to get the word out as best we could.
  • A decision had to be made and I will always side on safety for our people.

It is 10:00 a.m. right now and I just got up.  I am looking forward to spending the day with the family, letting my voice heal, and watching some football.  I hate to miss church, but I am going to enjoy the day off.

Bummed Out

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

Not having church tomorrow sucks. Looking outside now we probably could have had church, but a decision had to be made. I’ve been second guessing myself all night. :) I can handle snow all day long, but the ice thing freaked us out. The fact that we would have had people on the road at 5 in the morning and didn’t know what the weather will be like is something I couldn’t wait to make a call on.

It is going to be a weird feeling to get up in the morning and not have anything to do. Heck, it is a weird feeling now just to know we don’t have church tomorrow. I had a rocking message, we had some rocking music planned, and I was looking forward to the next confession. Don’t worry, we’ll come strong with it next week.

The thing that does make me proud is we didn’t have to have church just to pay the bills. I talked a couple of friends today who didn’t cancel services for the simple fact that they couldn’t afford to go a week without the giving. God has blessed us in that regard and our people are such great givers that I was able to make a decision that was safest for our people, not based on out bank account.

EDIT: Just saw that the DOT is recommending people stay off the roads. I feel better now. We are just doing our job of being good citizens. :)

ENJOY YOUR SUNDAY OFF WITH YOUR FAMILY!!! AND GO PACKERS!!!!

Yes, we are wimps…

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

Due to the weather we will NOT be having church services on Sunday, January 20th. The weather channels are all predicting temperatures dropping well below freezing tonight which could lead to the possibilities of black ice on the roads. As much as we would love to have church and worship together, we are not willing to risk the safety of those who call Revolution home. There were several factors that led to this decision:

Barry Manilow canceled his concert in Atlanta tonight. Nothing says tough like Barry Manilow. If he wasn’t willing to brave the conditions, we didn’t think we should either.

There have been rumored polar bear sightings. The blizzard like conditions make the local polar bears come out from hiding. We wouldn’t want to be responsible for anyone getting mauled by a polar bear.

The riot-like conditions in Canton make it dangerous to leave your home. There have been various reports of violent riots breaking out in local grocery stores over bread and milk. This is understandable because everyone knows you can’t survive a snowstorm without bread and milk.

All joking aside, we simply have no clue what the weather is going to do tonight. Temperatures are supposed to drop and that would mean the water on the roads would freeze. Things look great outside right now, but we start setting up for church at 5:00 a.m. I am not willing to put our set-up crews in risk on the roads.

In a perfect world we would wait until the morning to make this call, but that makes it impossible to get the word out. Enjoy your Sunday off and we will see ALL of you next Sunday as we continue our “Confessions” teaching series.

Churches Already Canceled???

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

We haven’t even had one drop of snow and I heard of a church in the area that has already canceled their services for tomorrow. Unless a blizzard comes, we are having church just like normal. If a blizzard comes, we are still having church. It might just be Tim and I, but we are having church.

If your church cancels, you are more than welcome to come join us. Let’s be honest, you know you have heard all the rumors about the crazy church in the movie theater and deep down inside you have wanted to come check it out. The problem is you were worried your pastor would notice you missing. Well, if they cancel tomorrow you will have a good reason to come check us out. TRUST me, with the message we are bringing tomorrow, you will have the rumors you have heard verified. We are coming strong, no-holds barred in a way you have probably never seen in church. Tomorrow is going to be off the hook!!!

So let me say it again: YES, we are having church tomorrow. If it snows, we are having church. They are NOT calling for ice, just snow. See ya in the morning at 9 and 10:30!!!!!!!

Friday Night Fun

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

I had a freaking blast teaching at West Ridge tonight.  I really love and respect Brian a lot.  I probably wouldn’t be in ministry today if WRC had taken me in after my experience pastoring in Iowa.  It was fun to connect and see some old faces.

The theme of the conference was Character.  I taught on Character Revealed.  They gave me the topic a couple of months ago and I had a blast teaching on the subject.  As always, it reminded me of the unique culture we have created at Revolution in regards to preaching.  Our people get rowdy when I teach.  The crowd at WRC is much tamer. :)  But they seemed to enjoy it.

I was strung out on cold medicine and Rockstar energy drinks and I thought I was going to die, but I finished without offending anyone, without getting Brian fired, and without getting shot.  I call that a success.

Teaching to men is a huge passion of mine and I hope some men got to hear some principles that will change their lives.

The highlight of the night for me was the fact that Tim and Swift rode with me.  I alway love hanging with Tim because we get to dreaming bigger and bigger things for Revolution and it gets me freaking pumped up!!  I think Tim is the greatest worship pastor in America and I couldn’t imagine doing Revolution without him.  Hanging with Swift was a blast.  For those you who don’t know, Swift sang back-up for Little Richard since he was 19 until about 3 years ago.  The dude has some CRAZY stories!!!!  He had me cracking up and had me amazed at how far God has brought him.  Friendships are what this things is about and tonight was a good reminder of that.

I guess we got a snow war going :)

Friday, January 18th, 2008

I decided upon reading Michael’s post about the snow that we weren’t cancelling church on Sunday due to the weather.  I refuse to say they are tougher in Cartersville then we are.

Well I guess Jimmy is raising the stakes because he not only says they aren’t cancelling church but they will shoot anyone who misses!!!!

THAT is how we roll in the dirty south!!!
