Preaching Calendar

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

I was just sitting here looking over our preaching calendar for the next few months and I am pumped up what we have planned.  We are going to be hitting on some awesome topics!

  • June - One Prayer - We are joining together with over 800 churches across the world for this awesome series.
  • July - Uncomfortable - We are going to be looking at some of the topics in the Bible that we don’t really like.  Those topics that make us uncomfortable.
  • August - Made - We are going to be looking what God created us to do.
  • September - Help, I’m a parent! - It has been over two years since our last parenting series and if there was ever a series in our church that hits home for the large majority of our people, this is it.
  • October - The Ultimate Fighter: Fighting The Temptations Men Face - This series is going to be 100% focused on the issues every man faces in his day to day life.  Sex, Money, and Power.
  • November - Girls, Girls, Girls - You didn’t think we were going to leave the girls out, did you?  Ladies, this series is focused on you and the issues YOU face.  Trust me, you will see a side of Revolution you have never seen!
  • December - Still praying through this but I am actually leaning towards Revolutionary Love: The Sequel.  Last December was so powerful that I want to relive it again.

Sunday Night Mind Dump

Sunday, May 18th, 2008
  • Very good Sunday today!
  • GREAT weather and the AC actually worked!
  • We were a little low but not much.  I think the awesome weather hurt us.  Everyone was at the lake.
  • I got to get my messages shorter.  I am popping 50 minutes the last three weeks.
  • First service, you guys got to get a little more rowdy.  :)
  • We have around 60 people to baptize next Sunday.  I’m sure it will go up.  I love it!
  • Prince Caspian made things a little crazy but that is the joy of meeting in a movie theater.
  • Adam was back from vacation and that was cool.
  • Met a church planter today but can’t remember where he was going.  Seemed like a nice dude.
  • Why do church planters insist on hanging out in coffee shops to meet unchurched people? The only people I see in coffee shops are church planters. Just one of those things that makes me laugh.
  • VERY impressed with this site for The Whiteboard Sessions. Never seen anything like that.
  • Tailgating service next Sunday!!! We are only having ONE service and it starts at 10:00 a.m.
  • Baptisms and Baby Dedications. Yeah…come on!
  • Can’t wait until June 1st. It is going to be a fun service. I’m just going to be sharing with you some random things in regard to where we are headed as a church.
  • Tadd and I dreaming and scheming and I think it is a God thing that could be HUGE. Keep praying about IT with us.
  • I’m preaching for Tadd in July.  Yeah…come on!
  • Scott Whitaker is coming to hang out Wednesday. Love that dude and love his heart to reach lost people AND that fact that he will NOT compromise from that vision.
  • I want to hire Tony McCollum. No, he isn’t looking to leave Fusion Church at all, I haven’t even told him I want to hire him, BUT God has told me he will be on our staff in a few years so why wait. If you want to pay his salary for a year for us, let me know.
  • I need some new music to listen to on my iPod
  • Watched American Gangster last night.  The longest movie I have ever seen but it was pretty decent.  Not great.
  • I am getting very excited about One Prayer.
  • I love Revolution.  I know that sounds like common sense but I honestly love pastoring this place.
  • I’m excited about seeing what God is going to do this summer.  We ARE going to grow this summer.
  • I need a haircut!
  • I got lunch this week a very cool person this week.  A friend worked it out and I am so pumped about it!  I feel you in later on the details.
  • This morning I told you if you came to my blog I would tell you why I was arrested in Panama City Beach on spring break.  It was several charges:  Public Drunkness, Underage Drinking, and Urinating in a public pay phone.  I told you that you didn’t want to know :)
  • My mom reads my blog and that might be the first time she has heard that.  She’ll be calling later.
  • Now you know why I am so passionate about Jesus Christ.  I figured I should run as hard for Jesus as I did for the devil.
  • I’m listening to Sammy Davis Jr. right now.  Sammy is the man but it is weird he is on the playlist.
  • Can’t wait until Lead team meeting tomorrow!
  • DeAnna and the kids are at Harry’s Farmers Market.  Love that place but I had some work to do so we’ll hook up tonight for family night.
  • Back to work.

Prison Break Finale

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Tomorrow morning we wrap up our Prison Break series by talking about Breaking Free From Religion.  I have enjoyed this series and A LOT of people have broken free from a lot of junk they carry around in their lives.  Tomorrow I am going to talk to you about the Prison I was in the first few years of my life as a Christ-follower.

It is going to be a great way to wrap up the series and head into our Tailgating service which happens next Sunday!

See ya in the morning!

Chick-Fil-A and Church Leadership

Friday, May 16th, 2008

I am a HUGE Chick-Fil-A person.  I love their attention to the small things, I love their food and I love their conviction not to be open on Sunday and the fact that they stand by it.

I saw this article today about the huge menu changes they are rolling out on Monday and thought it was another great lesson for the church in general.  They are the best and yet they are making changes while everything is going great because they know eventually the changes will have to be made!

I never want Revolution to be content.  Things are going GREAT right now and we are always looking for things that can be changed to make us more effective.  Go check out the article and see an inside glimpse into a great company and their thought process.

Being Part of Something BIGGER!!!

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

I have never been more clearer on the vision of Revolution than I am right now.  I know the vision, I know where we are headed, I know that it is going to happen, and I know we are going to rock North Georgia with the gospel of Jesus Christ.  I’m pumped about the future of our local church!

However, for a while now God has been stirring in me about how Revolution needs to be part of something bigger than just ourselves.  I don’t have any clue what that looks like and what that means, but I have a desire to see churches planted, guys networked together, and churches coming together to do more as a group than they can as individuals.  The crazy thing is this week alone I have talked to 4 different pastors about this same thing and the desire to do something great for the Kingdom by partnering together.

I think this is one of the reasons I am so pumped up about One Prayer.  I truly believe all the different churches uniting together for the mission is going to be awesome.  I can’t wait to start the series in June!  It is going to be awesome!

While One Prayer is going on, I am going to take advantage of having the different speakers we are showing to really seek God’s face about what it means for Revolution to be part of something bigger.  We have a couple of groups that already want us to partner with them, a couple we are interested in partnering with, and it could be that God simply wants us to take the lead and start something ourselves.  I don’t know, but I am pumped about getting some answers and vision over the next few months!

Guys To Put On Your Radar: Hal Mayer

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

I can’t remember where I first heard about Hal Mayer, but I am pretty sure it was in a coaching network I was in.  Someone was talking about this church in Tampa that was blowing the doors off.  I came home, checked out their webpage and put it on my “cool churches” bookmark and I would check in from time to time to see what they were doing.

I then attended a coaching network for about 2 months in Tampa before realizing it wasn’t my cup of tea, but one of the reasons I joined was I wanted to take the opportunity to met Hal while I was in Tampa.  I never made that happen, but about that time the cat started blogging and I was loving what he was saying and communicating to his church.  The dude is sharp and has a great preachers voice. :)

When I cut my blogs down to below 20, he made was one of the guys who made the cut.  Hal is the Lead Pastor at Church At The Bay and is getting it done.  They are blowing the doors off in a portable setting and he has a huge heart for church planters which is always a plus to me.  I love guys who are willing to learn from others and return that knowledge to others.

When I started Twittering, Hal was one of the first guys to start following me and he made the comment that he loved my blog!  Here is a guy I have been hearing all about and I follow and it turns out he is reading my blog!  I thought that rocked!  Today, we communicated and he is coming to hang out with Revolution Sunday, June 22nd.  This is going to be an awesome Sunday because one of my best friends, Greg Rohlinger is teaching for us in our One Prayer series.  I plan on learning a lot that weekend hanging with these two guys!

I am sure many of you already know who Hal is, but if not put him on your radar because the dude is getting it done!

Impressive

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Earlier today I was talking to Brian Bloye, Lead Pastor of West Ridge Church in Dallas, Ga.  As most of you know they are the church that started Revolution and since starting us they have taken church planting to another level.  They have a church planting school and have started a network called Net 35 (yeah the webpage sucks, don’t hold that against them) and they are getting it done in the area of church planting.  Anyway, I said all that to say this:  Since they planted us in the fall of 2004, they have planted 18 churches totaling 10,800 in attendance!!!!  That freaking blows my mind!  I have always felt like we are the black sheep of the churches they plant, but THOSE numbers are why we are active financially in partnering with what they are doing.  Those numbers blow my mind!!!

If you are looking to plant a church, I would recommend HIGHLY that you look into what they are doing and if you can make it to the school, I would do it.

BTW, he probably doesn’t want me to let people know this yet BUT that never stopped me before. :)  Brian has a blog now and told me today that he will be starting to blog regularly on Monday.  Subscribe to it because the dude is a sharp leader.  You can check it out here.

I knew I needed that diploma

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Got a contact today from a church wanting to know if I was interested in being a candidate to be their new pastor (I’m not interested). It was in a pretty rural area in the south Georgia area and while they seemed like great guys, I am not very sure why they contacted me? I would run half the church off the first Sunday and the other half would be ready to run me off.

Here is the part that mad me laugh. They are running around 100 people in attendance (nothing wrong with that) but when I looked over their qualifications I found out you had to have a seminary degree AND have lead a church of over 500 for 4 years. I guess they didn’t realize it, but that disqualified me.

I’ve never been to seminary or much college for that matter. Crap, I barely graduated High School and Revolution is only 3 1/2 years old and we didn’t hit 500 until around our 2nd year so I haven’t pastored a church of 500 for 4 years :)

Nice people, but I think they might have their expectations a little high. :)

Guys To Put On Your Radar: Cole Phillips

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

I love church planting and I love church planters. I am always looking for guys who inspire me, who are getting it done, and guys I would like to meet. I am always keeping a list of guys that are on my radar, especially guys I have just recently been turned on to.

I have a ton of planters who read this blog so I thought I would start pointing guys out to you that I have recently discovered. You might already know most of these guys, but I’ll share them with you in case you don’t.

A guy I have been checking out lately is Cole Phillips, who is the church planter at Connection Church. I know very little about their church story, but what I have been reading seems very cool. It truly sounds like they are getting it done and they have a huge heart for church planters. Cole has started something called Launching Churches and I wish I would have thought of it. :)

He might be the BALDEST dude I have ever seen. He doesn’t look like he has a drop of hair anywhere on him, but the information he is putting out on is good stuff. If you are a church planter, church leader, or just looking for some good stuff to read, put this cat on your list of guys to read.
