For the Ladies

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

I take a beating that I focus to much on reaching men at Revolution so I thought I would throw a little something out for the ladies today. :)

For the record (because I know Elrod is going to have a field day with this) my wife MADE me take these pictures and post them.

So ladies, here is some pictures of Jon Bon Jovi’s butt. :)

The Night DeAnna ALMOST left me…..

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Last night DeAnna and I went to the Daughtry/Bon Jovi concert at Phillips Arena. Thanks to an awesome couple in our church, we had GREAT seats in a large companies section of the arena. We parked 50 ft from the door, entered in through a private entrance, were right down front, had a private lounge, and to say I could get use to seeing concerts like that would be an understatement. It was awesome!

The concert was great. Daughtry is star. The guy has the goods and as soon as he band gets on par with him, they will will be super stars. The guy is going to be around for a long time.

Bon Jovi was great. I know there is a lot of talk about which band from the 80’s was the biggest back then, but there should be no debate which band from the 80’s will go down as the biggest when it is all said and done. Bon Jovi has evolved. Where many groups from that time are still playing the same songs, trying to have the same look, and haven’t changed in 20 years, Bon Jovi has changed with the times. As they played hit after hit, you can see it. They played HUGE hits from the 80’s, 90’s, and hits they have had as recent as this year. The church could learn a little something from them about changing with the times. There message hasn’t changed (songs are about the same things they were in the 80’s), but their look and style has changed and that is why the sold out Phillips Arena TWO nights in a row instead of doing what most bands from the 80’s are doing and that is touring outside venues with about 4 other bands praying it is half-full.

When we got in our seats there was a platform directly in front of us, two rows up. About half way through the concert, Jon came through the crowd and sang in front of us. He was so close I literally could have slapped him across his face. I was VERY worried what DeAnna was about to do. She did keep her clothes on, she didn’t throw herself at him, and she did leave with me but I was worried about that for a moment. :)

To show you how close we were, here are some pictures I took with my iPhone which has no zoom and makes things appear farther away than they actually are.

Concert Tour 08

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Tonight DeAnna and I hit the next stop on our concert stop with Bon Jovi and Daughtry.  We actually have tickets in a suite so to say we are pumped up would be an understatement.  Please pray that DeAnna doesn’t make it backstage because if she meets Jon face to face, it is over for me. :)

Concert Junkie

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Yes, I go to A LOT of concerts. If I could do anything with my life it would be to be the frontman of a band. Today someone asked me what the best concert I went to see last year was so I thought I would share the top five from the last year or so.

5.) Bon Jovi - Took DeAnna to this one last year (and going again this year) and the dudes are legends. EVERY song they sing is a hit. They sound great live and they have changed with the times (maybe the church could learn a lesson here) and years after the 80’s they are still packing out arenas with NEW music.

4.) Keith Urban Unplugged - DeAnna got to see Keith Urban with only about 2,000 other people and it was incredible. He literally sat on a stool and played the guitar and told the stories behind every song. It was GREAT.

3.) Three Days Grace - I had never heard of them, but they opened for Nickelback (who were awful) and these dudes stole the show. They had people eating out of their hand. I am not hooked on them. These cats are putting out some rocking music.

2.) Michael Buble - Took three chicks (one was my wife) to this concert and the dude was awesome. Honestly, I loved this concert. He is a great performer and it was awesome to watch him to just have the crowd lock in on him. GREAT GREAT show.

1.) Kid Rock - Tim, Adam, Thad, and I went to this show last Tuesday and I was BLOWN AWAY. The dude is GREAT. He is beyond talented. Yes, he is vulgar and I am not sure I would ever go back to another concert but the dude can play anything. He played rock, southern rock, hip hop, country, he played every instrument on stage and I have NEVER seen a crowd respond to a singer like they do him. You can just see it on his face that he loves what he is doing. The dude played for over 3 hours!! It was simple, no video, just a band rocking it out to great music. I think every worship pastor in America should go see him to learn how to lead a crowd of people in music.

In the next month I am going to check out Bon Jovi, Daughtery, and Lifehouse. Did I mention I love concerts?

Change of Plans

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Tim and I were going to see Van Halen on Monday night, but it is not happening.  They have postponed some of their dates.  I figure Eddie and David can’t get along so that makes me all the more glad I got to go see them two weeks ago.

We got tickets tonight to another concert and I am looking forward to it big time.  This dude is one of the most talented artists out today and he can do any type of music.  I hear he puts on one of the best shows out there so I am looking forward to it in a big way.  I love concerts!  I’ll tell you how it is AFTER I go to the concert. :)

VAN HALEN

Monday, February 11th, 2008

I love music.  I love concerts.  So last night someone hooked me up with Van Halen tickets and I was pretty jacked up.  David Lee Roth is back singing for them and I was looking forward to hearing them because like it or not, they are one of the great bands of our time.  They way they fight, I figured this might be the last time to get to see them.

So here are some quick hits:

  • Roth has still got pipes.
  • Roth is a GREAT frontman.
  • Eddie is probably one of the great guitar players of all time.
  • When you are the guitar player and you play in the center of the stage where the lead singer should be singing, you know you are good.
  • The entire band left the stage and Eddie entertained for 15 minutes just playing the guitar.  It never got boring.
  • No fancy lights, stage, or video.  Just loud rock and roll.
  • 50/50 mix in age.  A lot of over 35 and I lot of under 30.
  • They played two hours straight, never talked, never stopped.  It was great
  • Sound was awful.  Eddie’s guitar cut out of the mains probably 4 times, and Roth’s mic fed back twice.  If looks could kill, Roth would be in jail for murder.
  • Alex Van Halen can kill some drums.  He was awesome.  I thought we were cool because our drummer plays a double bass.  Alex plays with 4 bass drums.
  • Wolfgang Van Halen (Eddie’s son) is not good enough to play with them.  Obviously he is good, but not ready for the stage yet.
  • I think they had his bass track looped because several times he wasn’t playing but the bass was still playing.
  • GREAT night!
  • They are back next week and I got tickets to go again from my lovely bride.  It was so good that I am excited.  This time I am going with Tim.

Rockband Update

Friday, January 25th, 2008

We have named our band MSC (inside joke) and I have been demoted to bass player.  I can’t sing, I can’t play drums, and I am only semi-decent on guitar.  I have always said the worst job in the band is the bass player (no offense to any bass players who read this) but really all you get to do is stand there and hit a string every now and again.  It is easy.  However, it is better to be the bass player and be in the band then not be in the band at all.

So at least I am in the band…..barely.
